TCOO

Tigray Community of Oregon (TCOO) was established to unite the Tigray community of Oregon towards the common goals of uplifting the Tigray Community through charitable work in the areas of education, healthcare, nutrition and other basic needs within resource-limited areas in Africa and USA. The Corporation is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, religious, and scientific purposes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

The charity’s focus is enabling communities to empower themselves by giving children access to education (Set-up Computer centers for orphanage and under served communities), renovate schools and provide educational supplies, provide basic needs (such as sanitary pads to school girls so they don’t miss schools). We also provide feeding programs to schools and elderly centers so that they get proper nutrition to stay healthy.

Tigray War In November 2020, war broke out in the Tigray region of Ethiopia between the federal government and region's ruling party. Civilian structures in Tigray, including hospitals, schools, factories, and businesses, were shelled, looted and destroyed by Ethiopian federal forces, regional militias, and Eritrean armed forces. The war has caused a humanitarian catastrophe resulting in millions to flee their homes and at least 5.2 million in desparate need of food assistance. Full humanitarian access into Tigray continues to be restricted by the Ethiopian government.
